What Is the WCCVT?

The Waggoner Computerized Color Vision Test is an all-in-one digital color vision testing suite designed to evaluate color vision deficiencies.

Within the WCCVT, several different testing methods are available, including screening, diagnostic, pediatric, and adult testing.

The Adult Diagnostic test provided in the WCCVT software is considered one of three “precision” color vision tests recognized by the U.S. FAA.

It is also a military-grade color vision test accepted by the U.S. Navy, Army, and Coast Guard for personnel and applicants, including pilots.

The diagnostic tests can help identify both genetic and acquired color vision deficiencies and provide information about the type and severity of the deficiency.

What Can Color Vision Testing Detect?

WCCVT testing can evaluate several types of color vision deficiencies, including:

• Protan: Reduced sensitivity to red light
• Deutan: Reduced sensitivity to green light
• Tritan: Reduced sensitivity to blue light

The diagnostic testing included in the WCCVT is designed to identify both genetic and acquired color vision deficiencies while providing information about the type and severity of the deficiency.

Who May Benefit From Color Vision Testing?

Color vision testing may be recommended for patients who:

• Have difficulty distinguishing certain colors
• Have previously failed a color vision screening
• Need color vision evaluation for occupational requirements
• Require a more detailed assessment of their color perception
• Have experienced changes in their color vision

FAA-Approved Testing for Pilots

The Adult Diagnostic test included in the WCCVT is recognized by the U.S. FAA as one of three “precision” color vision tests available today. Pilots who need color vision testing for FAA purposes can come to The Vision Development Team for WCCVT testing.

The WCCVT is also a military-grade color vision test accepted by the U.S. Navy, Army, and Coast Guard for all personnel and applicants, including pilots.

Pediatric Color Vision Testing

Color Vision Testing Made Easy is also included in the WCCVT application and is considered a gold standard for pediatric color vision testing. It is used to screen participants at the World Special Olympics.

The WCCVT also includes the D-15 test as an additional color vision testing option.

What to Expect During Your Color Vision Test

The WCCVT is performed digitally and presents a series of color-based visual tasks. Depending on the testing required, the system can provide screening, diagnostic, pediatric, or adult testing.

Your responses allow the system to evaluate your ability to distinguish colors and help identify the type and severity of a color vision deficiency.
